The Directors of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society met to discuss policies and review goals. They established the 2009 budget and fundraising plan. They discussed volunteer recruitment, motivation and retention. They also discussed PR and increasing the number of volunteers.

BEHS members Ralph and Loretta Pinnell opened their Favoring Winds Ranch to members of BEHS for the annual members' meeting. Members discussed up-coming fundraisers, horse care and volunteer positions.

March 7 - Horse & Rider Booth - McKinney, Texas

BEHS members Bud Bugialli, Cindie Meyer, Michelle Stockton (and kids) manned a booth at the Horse & Rider store in McKinney. Cindie’s husband donated homemade cookies to sell which helped bring in close to $50 for the rescue. Michelle talked to members of Grace Lake Ministries, a therapeutic riding center in Anna, and the Lonestar 4H (Collin County horse project) club about ways the organizations could all help each other. Horse & Rider donated a new horse sheet/blanket to be sold at a later date to benefit BEHS. Potential adoptive and foster homes were sent home with all of the necessary paperwork to get them started. All in all, it was a great day!

March 26 - CyFair Express Network of the American Business Women's Association - Houston, Texas

Volunteers Darienne Owings and Ricke Weinkauf set up a booth at this event to talk to area business-women about BEHS. Darienne reports that many visitors to the booth said, "Thank you for doing this", or "I wish I had someplace to put one". This booth was a great way to raise awareness in Houston.

    April 24-April 25 - Booth - Dublin, Texas - Houston, Texas

    From Norma Hatch:
Lee Reed, her son, Jonathan, Rod Copeland, and I worked a booth in Dublin, TX, Saturday and Sunday, 4/24, and 4/25.

To say it was windy was an understatement. On Saturday, Lee's canopy went airborne and we all grabbed it before it flew away! And one table blew over -- as did Jonathan's laptop! It was still working afterward, thank goodness. So, on Saturday, I brought my TV/DVD combo...the wind didn't faze it!

Friday was slow, but we had a good crowd on Saturday. We sent one lady home with a membership form, and she was very interested in sponsoring a horse. She had questions about how to ensure that if she sends money to sponsor a particular horse, that horse will actually get the money. I'm pretty sure she'll be joining us.

May 16 - Teskeys Booth - Texas - Houston, Texas

    From Norma Hatch:
Today, Lee Reed and her son Jonathan, Jodi Mullins, Ann and Jim Souders, and I worked the booth at Teskey's. I had made a poster with photos and wording taken from the BEHS web site regarding the Hopkins County seizure. That was powerful! There were seveal visitors who went away with membership or adoption applications in their hands. Many wanted to help in some way.

May 29 - Lone Star 4-H Horse Group Playday - Blue Ridge, Texas - Houston, Texas

    From Michelle Stockton:
The benefit playday held for us on Sunday was a huge success! The weather was clear and we had a great turn-out. The Lone Star 4H kids (and their parents) worked hard to bring in as much money as possible for Bluebonnet and are going to give us all of the proceeds. Stay tuned for me to announce the amount as soon as I receive the news…. The President of the club is going to mail a check straight to our PO Box.

Misty’s adopted BEHS horse, Amigo, showed up to the playday in fine shape! He looked absolutely incredible!! Amigo “ran” in honor of My Jorga Peach. The announcer spoke about Bluebonnet and I had fun listening to the comments of the people sitting around me, ie. “Wow… that’s a rescue horse?” and “I didn’t know rescue horses could do playdays”! We definitely had an increase in visitors to our booth after Amigo made his appearance!!

I can not brag on the Lone Star 4H group enough. All members, kids and parents alike, were so friendly and helpful. They put on the event for us and did all of the work! It was a true gift. They are all very concerned about the welfare of our horses and are happy to be able to help out financially. If anybody would like information about the club, please let me know. They are strictly a 4H HORSE club (no other animals). Located in my area (McKinney, TX and surrounding areas).

    July 25, 2009 - Bluebonnet North Texas Members Get-together - Weatherford, Texas

The folks who live up in the "sorta" Northern part of Texas had a great meeting on Saturday at the restaurant at Teskey's. There were 6 members present and a number of things regarding Bluebonnet and other stuff were discussed. We hope to start getting some of these cowboys and cowgirls around here interested in rescueing horses. Hopefully we will have several other opportunities to get out there and be noticed. We discussed feed, the drought and horses, horses, horses!!!!

Special THANKS to Ann for organizing us again. She thinks it up and follows thru!!! That's what we need!
