2010 BEHS Scrapbook January 9-10 - Bluebonnet Directors Meeting - Corpus Christi, Texas The Directors of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society met to discuss the rescue's plans for 2010. They established the 2010 budget and fundraising plan. They discussed volunteer recruitment, motivation and retention. February 20 - Bluebonnet Annual Members' Meeting - Lorena, Texas BEHS President Jennifer Williams and her husband hosted the 2010 Bluebonnet Members' Meeting. BEHS directors presented info on the history of the organizations, its goals, upcoming fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. February 27 - Cowgirl Rodeo Weekend - Smithville, Texas
Thank you to Bluebonnet members' Pam, Regina, Courtney, Jessica, Gina, Rett and Enes for
making this booth so good. The volunteers sold BEHS merchandise, took
in donations, and talked to several people who were interested in BEHS. Several
people stopped by to thank the volunteers for the good work done by Bluebonnet.
March 13-14 - Horse-O-Rama - Ft. Worth, Texas
BEHS volunteers attended this great annual event. They talked to dozens of people about the rescue and our horses, educated people about the need for horse rescue, and hopefully helped find some deserving horses new homes! March 27, 2010 - The Vineyard's Stone Cutting Festival - Florence, Texas BEHS members held a booth at this unique festival in Florence, Texas. They talked to several people who were interested in adopting or fostering horses, sold BEHS merchandise and made new friends for the rescue. March 27 - Clinic for BEHS Foster Horses - Yorktown, Texas
Trainer Kaylon Sullins of KnP Training donated her time to put on a clinic for BEHS members
and their foster horses. She helped foster homes evaluated their foster horses' knowledge,
work through issues, and learn to work together. It was a great day for the horses and humans of
BEHS!
Several BEHS volunteers worked and had a great time chatting about horses, talking
about BEHS and shopping at Teskey's.
BEHS District Coordinator Rachelle Stridde put together an excellent booth at the Pioneer
Days Festival and spoke to a lot of new people about BEHS.
BEHS Assistant Adoption Coordinator Stephanie Harvey and her family put together a great booth for this event. They got to talk to several people about BEHS - and as an added bonus, the family adopted two adorable kittens at the event!
Several BEHS members from Arkansas took a trail ride on a gorgeous spring day. Several
BEHS adopted horses attended. The ride was eventful - all of the horses were feeling fresh -
but everyone had a great time riding, talking horses, and hanging out together.
BEHS Member Rachelle Stridde competed in the Relay for Life and also held a BEHS booth. She talked to people about the rescue horses and our needs, handed out applications and other information and had a great time.
BEHS hosted the inaugural Sparkling City Humane Gala in Corpus Christi, Texas aboard
the USS Lexington. The theme was the Roaring Twenties and many attendees dressed in
Flapper and Gangster fashion. The event included a Dancing competition with local celebrities,
silent auction and casino. Volunteers from Texas Humane Legislative Network provided
much of the manpower for the event.
May 8, 2010 - Southbound Sound - Tyler, Texas BEHS member Michelle Stockton and her family had a booth for BEHS at the Southbound Sound Music Festival at the Tyler Horse Park in Tyler, TX. They talked to several people about BEHS and got to enjoy some great live music. May 8, 2010 - Walton Feeds Customer Appreciation Day - Crosby, Texas BEHS Director Liz Magyar held a booth at this event in Crosby. She talked to a lot of horse people about BEHS, sold BEHS merchandise and made contacts with the event's other vendors. All in all, she says it was a great day! June 12, 2010 - Springtown War Memorial Appreciation Fair - Springtown, Texas BEHS members Norma Hatch and Jodi Mullins set up a BEHS booth at this community fair. They spoke to several people about the need for horse rescue, the need for adopters and the need for foster homes and other volunteers. Norma says, "...and one gentleman, who had been watching with his wife, came around the table and said he wanted to give me a hug for what I’m doing. He had tears in his eyes. "
June 27, 2010 - Honky-Tonk for Horses - Denison, Texas BEHS and other horse rescues were invited to this musical fundraiser put on to benefit another horse rescue. BEHS North Texas District Coordinator Michelle Stockton set up a great booth - and had a wonderful day! She talked to a lot of people interested in the rescue, recruited some potential adopters, and sold a lot of BEHS merchandise. It was a great BEHS day! Thank you, Michelle! August 12-13, 2010 - Citizens Police Patrol Academy Alumni Association Convention - College Station, Texas BEHS volunteers ran a great booth at this event. Volunteers spoke to several people interested in helping investigate neglect reports and getting involved to help horses. June 13-15, 2010 - Extreme Mustang Makeover - Fort Worth, Texas
August 21, 2010 - Equestrian Market Days - College Station, Texas BEHS volunteers ran a great booth at this event. They talked to people about neglect cases, told people about the Expo and passed out info on BEHS. They sold great BEHS merchandise and collected donations of items to sell at our Bluebonnet Horse Expo. September 18, 2010 - Wild West Festival - Springtown, Texas
BEHS volunteers Norma, Jodi, Tre, and Ann had a great time at this booth. In addition
to talking to a lot of people about BEHS, they got to see a John Wayne impersonator, Native
American marriage ceremony and more. What a fun booth and a great way to spend the day promoting BEHS!
September 25, 2010 - Pet Fest - San Marcos, Texas Although it was hot, hot, hot outside for this booth, everyone who worked it had a great time. They handed out tons of Expo flyers, talked about adoption, and met potential new members. Thanks to Regina, Paula and Pam, Marcy, Pam, Enes, and Manon for the hard work on this great booth! October 9, 2010 - H.E.A.R.T. Equine Fair - Saginaw, Texas Jodi M., Beverly S., Kandyce, M.J. and Norma H. worked the booth at the H.E.A.R.T. Equine fair. They talked to a lot of people about rescue and even recruited some new members! Great work! October 13, 2010 - Aggies for Animal Rescue - College Station, Texas BEHS Volunteer Kathy F. spoke to a huge crowd at Texas A&M's Aggies for Animal Rescue. She discussed the need for horse rescue and how they could get involved and help. Maybe BEHS will add a bunch of Aggies to our membership roster soon! November 6-7th, 2010 - Houston Dressage Society Annual Championships – Katy, TX
Liz M., Jane B. and Hunter worked the booth at the Houston Dressage Society Annual Championships hosted at the Southwest Equestrian Center located in Katy, TX. Lots of people stopped by to learn more about our rescue and purchased $160 worth of merchandise! The Board of Directors for the Houston Dressage Society said they were pleased to have a relationship with an equine charity organization. Our volunteers always reach out and touch the hearts of the people around them and get them interested in supporting our cause! November 11-13th, 2010 - Texas Stampede – Allen, TX Michelle S., Nichole S., Ashley S., Pamela K., John V., and Lynda C. worked the booth. There were lots of people in attendance! A combination of donations and merchandise sold brought in $176.41 for Bluebonnet. Almost every single person who stopped by the booth had a horse and wanted to help Bluebonnet in some way! Lots of applications and cards were handed out. Lots of people seemed interested in fostering. That's the way we get our horses homes! Thanks volunteers!
November 28th, 2010 - South Texas Hunter/Jumper Association Year-End Show
Bluebonnet members, Jane Blasberg and Liz Magyar, held a booth during the show. Over $240 in merchandise was sold along with many people people interested in volunteering and referring people to Bluebonnet to adopt horses.
December 11th, 2010 - Windy Hill Christmas Party
Bluebonnet members gathered at Regina's house for her annual BEHS Christmas Party! Good fun and food were had by all. Many interesting presents at the Christmas exchange.
