    Adopt a BEHS Equine

Whether you are looking for a companion for your other horses, a horse for your kids, or a trail or show horse for yourself, consider adopting a horse. Our adopters are generous individuals who not only get a great horse, donkey or mule – but they also help give a needy animal a loving, forever home.

When Bill and Cindy first met Serena, she was still recovering from the abuses suffered at the hands of a neglectful owner. When Serena arrived at BEHS, she had been without food or water for days. She was dehydrated and you could clearly see her ribs. BEHS volunteers worked with law enforcement officers and the courts to remove Serena and her pasture-mates from their neglectful owners and move them into loving foster homes. For Bill and Cindy, it was love at first site – they applied to adopt Serena just days after seeing her, and they were excited when their adoption was approved. They plan to train Serena as a pleasure horse – and they’re looking forward to many years with Serena.

Consider giving a horse like Serena a second chance and a home for life.

After BEHS receives a complete application, we will contact you to schedule a pre-adoption inspection.  During the inspection, a BEHS volunteer will visit your property or the barn where you will be keeping your adopted equine.  She can answer your questions about the adoption process and the organization, and will be taking a few photos and filling out some paperwork so we can ensure the home is safe – the care and comfort of our equines is our first priority.

Please read over our adoption policy to make sure adopting is right for you.  When you adopt from BEHS, you agree to provide a home for your new equine for life – you cannot sell, give away, lease out or otherwise dispose of your equine.  You also agree that you won’t breed any mares or jennies that you adopt.
