BEHS 003 - Dream Girl
Adopted August 2, 2005
Thoroughbred filly born April 23, 2005
Dream Girl’s dam was accidentally bred while in training. When her owner found out, she did not want the foal and told the trainer to euthanize it once it was born. Luckily the trainer felt sorry for the phone and posted flyers trying to find the baby a home. BEHS volunteered to take the foal who was allowed to stay with her dam only a few days. Her foster home worked hard to keep her alive – she did not adjust well to bottle feeding and had to visit the vet for fluids and other vet work multiple times. Throughout the trials and worries with Dream Girl, her foster family fell in love with her and decided to adopt her.

BEHS 015 - Fandango
Adopted December 26, 2005
1999, bay Arabian gelding
Fandango and his herdmates were removed from a negligent owner by a joint effort between BEHS and local law enforcement. When BEHS volunteers arrived on the scene, the horses had no water although the temperature was well over 100 degrees. They were severely dehydrated and were immediately seen by a veterinarian. Luckily the horses began recovering with good care, and Fandango blossomed into a gorgeous horse. His foster home worked with him once he gained weight and found that he was broke to ride. A second foster home fell in love with Fandango and decided to adopt him.

BEHS 046- George
Adopted December 21, 2005
1993, brown, gelded donkey
Curious George was removed from negligent owners along with a herd of eighteen other equine animals and then placed with BEHS. Curious George earned his name the day he was seized – he was curious about everything going on: grabbing paperwork from the veterinarian, knocking over vet supplies and more. George quickly wins everyone’s heart – he is outgoing and loves attention. He is also broke to ride and was adopted for a young girl.

BEHS 016- Jasper
Adopted September 15, 2005
Approximately 1995, chocolate palomino, Shetland pony gelding
Jasper was removed from negligent owners in a joint effort between BEHS and law enforcement officers. He was severely emaciated and dehydrated – and he was also completely blind. Jasper learned to navigate property at his foster home, and she got him a “seeing eye donkey” to help him get around. His foster mom adopted Jasper and gave him a place to live out his life.
Jasper died August 27, 2006 at his adopter’s home. Although she had him less than a year, she misses him very much.

BEHS 008 - Moonshine
Adopted October 5, 2005
1986-1990, grade Appaloosa pony
Moonshine's former owners rescued him from a bad situation, rehabilitated
him but then they could no longer keep him. They placed him with BEHS
where he moved into a foster home who found out he was a quiet riding pony.
His adopters were looking for a large pony for their daughter to use for
Pony Club events and loved Moonshine. They adopted him and renamed him Moonshadow.
Update June 2007:
Kaye and Moonshadow just came home from a week away at Pony CLub camp. Shadow
was a star - he was used for demos because he was so great. He did dressage, he
did trail rides, he did all sorts of mounted games, he jumped stadium, he did
cross country, he did obstacle courses - I think he was the
most well behaved pony at camp. By the end of camp all
the kids knew who he was and were awed by his happy
willingness. He did not put foot wrong and HE has a great
time...the bigger the challege the happier he was. I
was seriuosly impressed.

BEHS 027 - Nellie
Adopted August 29, 2005
1999, palomino, Shetland pony/Miniature horse cross mare
Nellie’s owner died, and his family did not want her. Luckily they called BEHS and we were able to take her. When she got to us, she was very overweight and her feet had grown so long that they resembled “skis”. After a diet and good farrier work, Nellie looked and felt better. Her foster family fell in love with her as soon as they met her, though, and decided to give her a home for life.

BEHS 020 - Serena
Adopted July 25, 2005
2004, Arabian cross mare
Serena, her dam, and four other herdmates were removed from a negligent
owner by a joint effort between BEHS and law enforcement officials. Although it
was well over 100 degrees, the horses had no water and were badly dehydrated. Luckily
BEHS rushed them to a veterinarian where they got proper care and began to recover.
Serena quickly gained weight and became a beautiful young horse. Her foster home
fell in love with her and decided to offer her a permanent home.
Update July 2007: Serena's adopter reports that after a lot of ground work,
it was time to start Serena under saddle. Thanks to the extensive ground work and
Serena's amazing personality, her first ride was completely uneventful.

BEHS 002 - Zeek
Adopted August 18, 2005
1994, 16.3 hh, bay Thoroughbred gelding
Zeek’s owner was heading to college and unable to keep him, so she asked BEHS to take him in. When Zeek arrived, he was experiencing pain in his hocks, hips, pelvis and back that required chiropractic treatments. His hocks appeared permanently damaged and his vet felt he should not be ridden. His foster “mom” decided to adopt him and give him a place to live out his life.
Zeek’s adopter lost him in July 2006 due to complications from EPM. She misses him very much.
Zeek would like to thank:
