    Adopted October 22, 2006

    2001, sorrel, grade mare

Her former owner sent her to a trainer, but Faeden is a very dominant horse and her former owner decided to place her with BEHS so she could find a home who would “click” with her personality. While in BEHS, Faeden’s foster home continued working with her and found that she is a nice, laid back horse who never offered to buck or rear. BEHS 036 - Madison

    Adopted May 29, 2006

    1996, bay tobiano, Paint mare

Madison was removed from a negligent home by a joint effort between BEHS and local law enforcement. Madison was so weak when she was removed from her home that she kept going down and had to be helped back to her feet for the first few days she was with BEHS. She slowly gained weight and blossomed into a gorgeous horse. Her former owner said she was used as a roping horse before he got her, and she certainly is well broke to ride. However she gets excited under saddle and needs a confident rider. Madison’s second foster home fell in love with her and decided to adopt her.

    Adopted January 21, 2006

    2005, chestnut, Arabian filly

Miss Priss came to BEHS when she was just a few months old – a victim of a negligent owner. Although she was only slightly underweight, her dam was very thin and both were dehydrated. Once both felt better, Miss Priss was weaned and grew into a stunning weanling filly who learned quickly. She was adopted by a wonderful family who plans to train her to ride when she’s old enough.

    BEHS 071 - Nickers

    Adopted April 25, 2006

    1980, bay, Thoroughbred gelding

Nickers was removed from a negligent owner and placed with BEHS. He was several hundred pounds underweight at the time and very weak. Slowly he gained weight and became a gorgeous horse. He has a lip tattoo, so we know he was in race training but the tattoo is hard to read so we are unsure of his registered name. Nickers was broke to ride but he was adopted by his foster family after they fell in love with him. Nickers was euthanized on December 3, 2006 because of severe founder and degenerative bone disease in both front legs. His family misses him terribly.

    BEHS 024 - Olive Oyl

    Adopted August 14, 2006

    Approximately 1987, registered Thoroughbred mare.

Olive Oyl was discovered starving in a field. When the sheriff’s department began an investigation, her owner told them they could just have her. The sheriff’s department asked BEHS to take her and rehabilitate her. She has a lip tattoo, so we believe she underwent race training (and may have raced). Olive Oyl is broke to ride, but she either has arthritis or an old injury that leaves her unsound. Fortunately her foster home fell in love with her and adopted her.

    1993, chestnut, registered Arabian mare

The sheriff’s department and BEHS worked together to remove Pandora and others and get them the care they deserved. Once she gained weight, we discovered that she was well-trained. We also discovered that she had once been a race horse. Pandora was adopted as an endurance horse and has been competing successfully. Her adopter says people cannot believe she came from a rescue!

    BEHS 032 - Roy

    Adopted December 18, 2006

    1985, gray, registered Arabian gelding

Roy's owner lived in Mississippi and lost her barn to Hurricane Katrina. Roy had severe COPD and was having a hard time breathing in the heat and humidity without the aid of a fan and sprinkler. Although she loved him dearly and was devastated to part with him, she asked the rescue to take him and find him a home where he could get the care he needed. A foster home in west Texas volunteered, and the dry climate was just what he needed. He did so well that his foster home could discontinue his medications and even ride him (under veterinary supervision). His foster home felt they could give Roy the best home in a climate that agreed with him, so they adopted him.

    BEHS 033 - Tucker

    Adopted July 1, 2006

    Approximately 1980, black, Thoroughbred gelding

Tucker’s owner was unable to care for him and asked BEHS to take him. When he arrived, he was very underweight and underwent several months of rehabilitation. Once he was healthy, he was test-ridden and discovered to be a nicely trained, fun horse to ride. Due to his age, he was looking for a home where he would be lightly ridden – and his foster mom decided to provide just such a home for life.

    Tucker would like to thank:
    Marianne and Stephen S.

    BEHS 034 - Zeus

    Adopted September 12, 2006

    1996, sorrel, Quarter Horse Gelding

Zeus was donated by his owner when she could no longer care for him. He has an awesome temperament and has been ridden by children and handled by novices. Zeus' only drawback is an occasional lameness and anhydrosis. He was adopted but returned when his adopters could no longer keep him. He was then adopted by a family who loves and adores him. His lameness worsened after he was adopted, but they don't care. His new "dad" is happy to let Zeus be a horse and his "best pal".

    Zeus would like to thank:
    Denise C.
    Jodi L.
    Sylvia C.M.
    John and Jimmy Lee W.

    Adopted August 17, 2006

    1999, Bay, Anglo-Arabian gelding

Zydeco was surrendered by his owners when they were investigated for neglect. He quickly gained weight and proved to be a well-trained and nice riding horse. He was adopted less than a week after he went up for adoption. His adopter loves him and brags about him to anyone who will listen. Zydeco even has his own MySpace webpage!

    Zydeco would like to thank:
