    Adopted January 9, 2010

    1997, grade mare

Ada Monroe was removed from negligent owners by law enforcement officers and awarded to BEHS by the courts. She was adopted twice and returned for bucking and be hard to ride. She finally met her perfect adopter in January of 2010.

    BEHS 291 - Aramis

    Adopted October 2010

    Approx. 2003 Bay grade gelding

Aramis came to BEHS along with several other horses in a neglect case. He was a young stallion who was gelded after arriving at BEHS, but he retained some of his stallion-like behaviors. This meant not a lot of people were willing to take him on. He went to training and learned to walk, trot and canter under saddle – but he’s a hotter horse and needed a rider who would enjoy that. He was adopted at the 2010 Bluebonnet Horse Expo to be his adopter’s first horse. She had ridden horses for years for other people, but she now finally has her own. Congrats to Morgann and Aramis!

    BEHS 442 - Arliss

    Adopted August 1, 2010

    2009 sorrel grade gelding

Along with his dam, baby Arliss came into Bluebonnet during December of 2009. He was only about four months old. Sadly, after giving him all she had, we (and Arliss) lost his mom two days after she arrived. This little guy had a pretty rough start in life, but has been thriving, learing and growing in his foster home. This weekend, things took yet another turn for the better! Leonard T., a previous adopter had decided it was time to add a youngster to his herd and thought Arliss might be a good fit. They met him this weekend, fell in love with the cute little guy and adopted him. Arliss went to his new home today! Congrats to all!! We look forward to watching Arliss grow up and having a wonderful, happy life! Thanks to Leonard T. for giving yet another needy horse a loving home and a second chance at having a good life.

    BEHS 330 - Arwen

    Adopted March 2010

    2000 Bay Thoroughbred mare

Arwen has found her forever home! She came to BEHS last year as part of neglect case. She was underweight but blossomed into a gorgeous horse. In her past life, Arwen was a winning racehorse. We don't know what happened between then and when she arrived at BEHS, but we know that today she's gorgeous and healthier. And earlier today she met her adopter - and it was love at first sight. Congrats to Arwen and Kambrah!

    BEHS 240- Banks

    Adopted October 2010

    Approx. 1994 Appaloosa gelding

Banks came to BEHS in 2008. When he was removed from his negligent owners, he was a stallion and had been allowed to get away with bullying behavior. Since he was a large pony, this made him difficult to place: he needed a small rider who wouldn't put up with his bad behavior. In the fall of 2010, he met a family who put him to work. They took him on trail rides and gave him a job - and he excelled at it! He found his perfect place. Add a thanks to Gayleen E.

    BEHS 333 - Bjorna

    Adopted October 2010

    Approx. 2008 Bay grade mare

Bjorna was discovered on the side of the road, abandoned. When she was discovered, Bjorna's legs were covered in severe wounds. The veterinarian who saw her believes they were rope burns. Thanks to the care of her foster home, the wounds have healed. Bjorna’s adopters fostered her for nearly a year but during that time, Bjorna had found a place in their heart. They adopted her during the 2010 Bluebonnet Horse Expo. Congrats to Bjorna and the Hartman family!

    BEHS 466 - Branigan O'Blue

    Adopted November 2010

    3/25/2010 Paint filly

Congratulations to Branigan O' Blue and her adopter Jenni D., a long time member of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society. Branigan was born into the rescue, after her dam, True Blue arrived already in foal. She is a little pistol, cute and has a strong mind. This pretty little filly is as smart as a whip. She will make Jenni and her family a wonderful mount some day. For now, they will enjoy her as a baby and continue to work with her on manners and ground work, getting her ready for the saddle in a couple of years. Happy trails everyone!

    BEHS 454 - Calamity Jane

    Adopted 2010

    Donkey jenny

Calamity Jane (CJ) was picked up right before Christmas as part of a neglect case. Her back hooves were so deformed, possibly from neglect, that they were curled under. Her companion, a donkey jack, had died before law enforcement arrived. Fortunately for CJ, rescuers arrived in time to save her and give her a second chance at life as her Christmas present. She was placed with BEHS where she gained weight and proved to be a smart and sweet little donkey. Her back hooves did not seem to slow her down - she ran and bucked and kicked in pasture. She was adopted by a family who has adopted from BEHS previously and goes to join Lancer as part of the Barnhill family.

Camille is an adorable pinto pony who came to BEHS in April 2010 as a very neglected mare. Her adopter met her right after she had been seized and knew she wanted to give Camille a home. She adopted her even though it appears that she won't be a riding horse (due to her advanced age).

Candy came to BEHS as part of a neglect case in 2009, and Mulder came in as part of a neglect case in Arkansas in 2008. Both recovered well from neglect. Candy blossomed into a lovely, well-built filly and Mulder turned into an adorable fancy pony. Both attended the 2010 Bluebonnet Horse Expo. Their adopter found them at the Expo and immediately applied to adopt. He took Mulder and Candy home a few weeks later.

    BEHS 312 - Carlyle

    Adopted 2010

    Approx. 2006 Donkey gelding

Carlyle was running loose for a considerable period of time in Bastrop county until he was picked up by Animal Control and donated to BEHS. He had not been handled much prior to coming to BEHS, and true to his donkey nature he wasn’t all that interested in getting halter broke once he got here. He moved through a few foster homes, but his most recent home really fell in love with him and decided to make him a part of her family.

    BEHS 356- Cassandra

    Adopted October 2010

Cassandra came to BEHS as part of a large neglect case that involved four different agencies. When she arrived, she had not been handled much and was a hard horse to handle. She’s a big TB mare, and she could be intimidating. She went to training and came home a changed horse. She was ridden English and sidesaddle in her foster home, and she came to the Expo expecting to show off her new sidesaddle skills. Instead, she was one of the first horses adopted at the Expo. But as she grew, put on weight and recovered, her leg got stronger. Her vet cleared her to start riding - and she started looking for her forever home. It has taken her four long years. but this week, Celeste was adopted! She'll be going to live with a family with draft horses in Texas. Congrats to Celeste and her new family!

Chili Chick came to Bluebonnet with her herd mates in November of 2009. She had been used in a childrens riding program and was in foal. Baby Chicklet arrived in March of this year and was recently weaned, making Chili Chick available for adoption. Kandyce S. lived nearby Chili's foster home, had met, fallen in love with and applied to adopt Chili - then waited for weaning of the baby. Chili went to her new home last week! She is a very nice (and pretty!!) mare that will make a good trail/pleasure horse for her new adopters. Thanks to Kandyce S. for giving Chili a family to call her own, that will love and give her the very best of care. We all look forward to updates about Chili and what she is up to! Cocoa is a sweet boy who learns quickly, and he loves getting attention from people. His foster home taught him to carry a saddle and a bridle, and he was adopted in early 2010 by a young woman who kept working with him: starting him over cavaletti and small jumps. She had to return Cocoa to BEHS because she was moving out of the country, but he was quickly adopted by another family as a pleasure riding horse. Congrats to Cocoa and the Beshirs family!

    Adopted 2010

    2006 grade mare

Dolly came to BEHS in 2008 as part of a neglect investigation. Her foster mom adopted her several months later. She had planned to keep Dolly forever, but her husband was transferred out of state and they couldn't take Dolly with them. Fortunately, a friend of theirs had fallen in love with Dolly and agreed to give her a home.

    BEHS 67 - Dottie

    Adopted March 2010

    1998 Chincoteague pony

Dottie is an adorable pony – from the legendary Chincoteague herd. Her previous owner bought her after the famous Chincoteague swim when she was only four months old. They brought her home, gentled her and trained her. However they had too many horses and felt Dottie didn’t get enough attention, so they donated her to BEHS. Dottie’s broke to ride and has been ridden by children and small adults. She was adopted by a family as a riding pony in 2006 and again in 2008. Both times she was returned when her family outgrew her. This time, her foster home fell in love with her and adopted her for their kids.

    BEHS 414- Faith

    Adopted

    1993 Dun grade mare

Faith and two other horses were abandoned at a vet’s office in 2009. Imagine the office staff’s surprise when they arrived one more to find three emaciated horses in their paddocks with no owner. Fortunately the county placed the horses with BEHS, and Faith quickly gained weight. She turned out to be a sweet horse who was easy to handle. Her foster mom rode her, and she was incredibly lazy – she didn’t like to move out at all. But that turns out to be just what her adopter wanted. She adopted Faith at the 2010 Bluebonnet Horse Expo. Congrats to Faith and the Higgins family!

    BEHS 383 - Gingersnap

    Adopted March, 2010

    2005, grade, stock-type mare

At 20 years of age, Gingersnap came to us last year as a seasoned horse. She was found estray and after her owner could not be located, was awarded to Bluebonnet. Her foster mom quickly realized that she was well broke to ride, was good with children and got along well in a herd. A great all around kind of horse, that everyone would want to have. This weekend, at 21 years old, Gingersnap went home to her new family where she will be loved and used as a trail/pleasure riding/family horse. Congrats to all!!

His adopter met him there, put in her application and was able to take him home a few weeks later. She's going to get training for him and use him for trail rides. BEHS 111 - Henry

    Adopted 10/27/2010

    1988 mammoth jack donkey

Henry came into BEHS in 2006 as part of a neglect case. He stands nearly 16 hh – and he’s the tallest donkey many people in the rescue have ever seen! He gained weight and then his foster home began working with him under saddle. She got on him a few times and although he didn’t know much he was quiet and willing. He was adopted in 2009 but returned because his size intimidated his adopters. He moved into a new foster home who fell in love with him. She decided to make him a permanent part of her life.

    BEHS 395 - Jabon

    2010

    2008 Bay grade mare

Jabon came to BEHS in 2009 in very bad shape. She was part of a seizure of 17 horses, and her head was deformed. Her face looks "crooked" and her vet feels she may have been kicked or stepped on as a foal. Her crooked face gives her a cute look, but it means her teeth need regular attention to insure she can eat her food. She was fostered for a year, and one day her foster "mom" decided she hated the idea of letting Jabon go and adopted her.

This little firecracker is also so sweet, how could you help but fall in love? She was adopted in 2007 but returned when her adopters could not care for her. 200p Sorrel grade mare

Lone Starlett was part of a large neglect case. She was removed in a joint effort between BEHS and law enforcement and then placed with BEHS by the courts. She is a beautiful filly with a very feminine look and correct conformation. Her calm, quiet disposition is a definite asset. She will come when called in an open field and readily sticks her head in a halter. This filly is smart, and her willingness to learn makes her easily trained. She leads, stands quietly when tied, and is very flexible and sensitive to pressure. Lone Starlett competed in the 2010 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge and won her category, youth handler, with her trainer, Kayden. 2010 Grade gelding

Clay's Jasper is a cute, nearly black donkey jenny, and Shadow is a weanling colt. They both came from the same seizure, and when they arrived Shadow was so weak no one thought he would survive. His foster home nursed him around the clock and slowly he gained strength. In the meantime, they also fostered Clay's Jasper and their son fell in love. It didn't take them long to decide they had to adopt them both. Congrats to Clay's Jasper, Shadow and the Poldrack family!

    2003 Paint mare

Shawnee had been with Bluebonnet for over two years and until recently, had not been taught, or worked with much. She began learning basic manners and showed to be a willing student, that only needed direction in what was being asked of her. Abigail P. had applied to adopt a year ago, but had been unable to find a ho...rse that would work for her - until she noticed Shawnee coming around. Abigail met and adopted Shawnee this weekend! YAY!! We can not wait to watch Shawnee come along in training. We (or you) may even run into her and Abigail out on a trail ride some day! Congrats to all!!!

Stryder is a big, pretty bay roan who is one of the most laid-back horses around. He’s easy to ride western – whether in an arena or out in the open. He moves along steadily and nothing seems to bother him. He came to BEHS from a neglect case, but it didn’t take him long to fill out. Stryder’s adopters came to the 2010 Bluebonnet Horse Expo to see another horse. But when that horse didn’t work out, they took a look at Stryder and he turned out to be just what they needed. He quickly gained weight once he got good food, but it took longer for him to like people. His foster “mom” began training and riding him and used him in the 2010 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. His adopter was at the Expo and saw him in the Challenge. She fell in love and adopted him to become her trail riding horse. Congrats to Beverly and Sullivan!

    BEHS 364 - Zezz

    Adopted June 20, 2010

    1987 Grey Arabian gelding

Zezz came to BEHS in May 2009 along with fifty-six other horses as part of a neglect case. Zezz and the other stallions were all kept in stalls, and many of the stalls were several feet deep with compacted manure. They had little access to water and almost no food. When rescuers went to let them out of stalls, many of the latches on the stall doors were rusted shut. Zezz recovered, was gelded and began the long road to rehabilitation. He has a lip tattoo and from that we were able to determine that he had been raced twice as a young horse, coming in 1st and 3rd. After that, we’re not sure what training he had but his foster home found he was well-trained to ride and seemed to enjoy being ridden. His foster “mom” says he’s the happiest horse she’s ever known, always waiting at the gate for her with his ears up and a happy look on his face. He was adopted and now shares a home with another BEHS horse, River.
