Bio: Braveheart was donated by his owner due to training and pasturing constraints. He is curious, smart and friendly with people. He has good ground manners, is perfect for the farrier, loves to be groomed, and stands tied nicely for handling and saddling. He is good around dogs and cats and is a very easy keeper. He has had two very unfortunate episodes of aggressiveness towards another horse; One episode happened at his previous owner's, and the other occured at a trainer's. We don't know what sparked these, as he had previously been successfully pastured with other geldings, but because of them we keep him pastured by himself where he can see other horses but not touch them. He has never exhibited aggression toward another horse while in-hand or under saddle, however.

History: According to his donor, Braveheart was green broke as a two year old and has been handled on a daily basis for the past two years. He will yield to pressure, and lunge at the walk and trot. He has had limited training in English (snaffle bit) to halt, walk, trot and canter. He has had limited training in Western.  He has had trailer training and hops right into even a small two-horse trailer.

Health/Lameness: Braveheart is very healthy and sound, and built to stay that way. He has had some type of injury to the left corner of his mouth. His trainer initially thought it affected the inside of his mouth, but on recent examination at his float appointment his bars and gums were found to be damage-free and healthy. There is still a knot at the corner of his lips. Because of this, we have been riding him in a bit-less sidepull bridle. He may be able to carry a bit successfully in the future but does quite fine without one.

Abilities:He is fast, nimble, and probably will take to any discipline where his mind is engaged and he has a job to do. With his strength and build, he may be a good endurance prospect.

Braveheart's foster mom has been trail riding him. He does much better out on the road or on the trail than in an arena. His foster mom can ride him down the road without other horses but he can also trail ride with others. He's learned not to spook at every little creature who moves in the bushes. He's still a handful and has days when he'd just as soon buck and rear, but he has more good days than bad ones. He really hates going across water, and this is something his foster mom is working on. He's still not a child's pony, and may never be, but for a skilled, small adult with a job for him, he'll make a great horse.

Other: Update June 2008: Braveheart has been ridden by a professional trainer as well as an accomplished amateur. He bucks, bolts, and rears under saddle and is not safe for riding and WILL NOT be adopted out as a riding horse. In the past he has attacked another gelding, although he is now pastured with geldings and is doing fine. He has excellent ground manners and would be good for someone wanting an only horse to groom and love but not ride.
