Bio: Cullens was found in a pasture being attacked by a stallion. His owner refused to have him treated or
remove him from the pasture, so law enforcement began a neglect investigation. She then decided to surrender Cullens to BEHS.
History: : It does not appear that Cullens was handled much before coming to BEHS.
Health/Lameness: Cullens has finally healed from his attack by the stallion.
He has scars on his hindquarters from the stallion attack. He is pasture sound and the scars do not appear to interfere with his gait.
Abilities: Cullens learns quickly and is a pleasure to work with. He is easy to catch and lead. He stands tied quietly for up
to 30 minutes, even with weedeaters and tractors working nearby! He has been bathed and groomed and accepts fly spray. He has had a few short round pen sessions
to work on building muscles in his hind end, which has some scars from his injuries. He has been loaded in both stock trailers as well as slant loads and has been
tied during trailering. He is good for the farrier and allows his foot to be placed between the farrier’s legs and on the lap.
Other: Cullens is very friendly with trusted handlers but can be a little uncertain
with new people. Although he can get excited out in the pasture, he is a pretty mellow young horse and prefers to eat grass and visit other horses over the fence rather
than run and play. He has been turned out with a filly and played well with her. He also has been turned out with an older gelding. In both situations, the other horses
were dominant to Cullens.
Cullens has a wonderful extended trot with a good stride length. He shows no signs of lameness from his injuries. With his calm and accepting nature, he should make
a good trail horse. |
