Dom needs an experienced rider/trainer at this time. He is easy to handle on the ground but has a tendency to spook at unfamiliar things.
History: Unknown. He is accustomed to wearing a saddle and accepts a rider, so he may have been used as a riding horse in the past. Dom was adopted in 2007 but unfortunately was returned to BEHS in 2008.
Health/Lameness: None known.
Abilities: Dom Perignon is now at a healthy weight. He is being worked with on a daily basis at his foster home and is eager to please. Dom loves attention and bonds quickly with his handlers. He is currently in a herd with two other geldings and gets along well with them.
It is obvious Dom has not been worked in a round pen or on a lunge line but he is learning these new skills quickly. He seems to be familiar with voice commands.
Dom Perignon has been ridden several times in the round pen under saddle, with only a halter on, without incident. He exhibits a general reluctance to move forward and does not seem to be familiar with leg or rein cues. .
Update: Dom Perignon is now being evaluated under saddle and is doing quite well.
Update: Update: During his last session under saddle, Dom started bucking and threw his rider. This was the first time in foster care that someone attempted to ride him with a bit in his mouth. The bucking started the minute there was pressure on the bit from the reins. His foster home will continue to work with him to get the bucking issue resolved and to further evaluate his abilities under saddle.
Other:
Dom is a wonderfully sweet natured horse and he is going to make someone a
proud adopter!
