Name - Henry Breed - Mammoth Donkey Gender - Gelding DOB - Estimated 1988
Height - 15.2 Registration - None Color/Markings - Red/Brown Arrived: 8/13/06
Bio: Henry was surrendered to BEHS when his owner was investigated for
neglect. Henry was several hundred pounds underweight when he arrived, but he recovered well. He is a comical donkey but will test a new handler and needs someone who will be firm, but fair with him.
History: Henry was used as a breeding jack until coming to the rescue.
He was adopted in the fall of 2009 but returned a few months later because he was too much for his novice handlers.
Health/Lameness: None known.
Abilities:Henry is not broke to ride, but he’s had a rider on his back a few times and is learning.
If someone’s willing to keep working with him, he could be a cool riding donkey.
Mammoth donkeys are considered "critically endangered" by the American Livestock Breeds Conservatory. Adopting Henry would give you a
unique addition to your farm - one not seen many places!
Henry was not gelded until early in 2006 and was used as a breeding jack most of his life. However, he has been
successfully pastured with mares - may need to be separated at feeding time.
Other: Henry's fur is like that of a wire-haired terrior and very thick. He is an attention hog. Henry
loves treats, but he is never aggressive to get them. He would just as much like to be petted as he would to get a treat and loves having his big ears scratched. Henry has really left
a good impression on those who have met him. |
