Bio:
Shawnee is a minimal white paint. She is a sweet pretty girl who had
little training or handling prior to coming to BEHS. She is friendly and curious, and she learns quickly.
History: Shawnee was
seized by law enforcement. She and pasture mates were left without water.
Health/Lameness:
None known.
Abilities: Shawnee is not broke to ride. But she is a perfect age to start, and she is a quick learner.
She knows how to stand tied and give to pressure. She lowers her head with pressure on her poll, flexes her head to either side with light
lead rope pressure, and backs nicely with minimum pressure on the leadrope. She carries a saddle well and is learning to longe. Her adoption fee will
increase as she goes through additional training.
Shawnee wants to please her handler and tries hard to understand what is asked of her. She can be a little skittish so she's not for a novice horse
person. She's a nice stout mare who could do well in a variety of western disciplines with a little time and patience.
Shawnee will be in training with a professional trainer from February 21, 2010 - approximately March 21, 2010. You
can adopt her during this time, and her adoption fee will reflect the amount of training she's had.
Other: Shawnee can be a little hard to catch in pasture sometimes. But if
you are patient she comes around quickly. She did not have her feet trimmed until December 2009 because she was learning to have them handled. She will
need continued work with her feet and a patient farrier who will not punish her for her nervousness.
When Shawnee first arrived at her new foster home in November 2009, she would rear when being lead if something scared or startled her. Within a
few weeks, she had stopped rearing. She may, however, test a new handler.
