About Pocahontas

Pocahontas was surrendered to animal control when her owner could no longer keep her, and then animal control placed her with Bluebonnet.

While Pocahontas was halter broke when she arrived at the rescue, it appears she had not had much other handling.

Health / Lameness

Pocahontas has locking stiffles in both rear legs.  She will do best kept on pasture or in a large paddock, and the condition will improve as she gains condition and is exercised/ridden.  She has no other known health or lamenss problems.

Evaluation and Training

Pocahontas hadn’t had much handling when she came to Bluebonnet.  She went straight to a trainer to compete in the Spring Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge.  Her trainer focused on getting her catchable and safe to handle on the ground and decided to not compete with her.  She spent time with Darrell Gardner in the summer of 2019 and was started under saddle.  She is very green and needs someone who can continue her training.
