About Sprite

Sprite was surrendered to BEHS when her owner was investigated for neglect. When she arrived, she was very underweight and had such a severely infected sunburn on her legs that she had to undergo surgery to remove the infected skin. After surgery, Sprite was very uncertain of humans - and who can blame her! Luckily she came around and won the hearts of her foster “parents”. They decided to make her a permanent addition to their home in 2007.

Sprite’s adopter died, and his wife kept her for several years in his memory.  Finally, though, she returned her to Bluebonnet.

Sprite did not have much handling before she came to Bluebonnet.

Health / Lameness

Sprite has no known health or lameness problems.

Evaluation and Training

Sprite had not been handled when she came to Bluebonnet.  Her foster home worked with her to gentle her, halter train her, and eventually train her to ride.  His family adopted her and both he and his grand kids rode Sprite but she then she was not ridden for a few years.  When she returned to the rescue her current foster home started riding her and says she crowhops at first.  It seems like she’s testing her rider.  At this point, she’s not for a novice but could be with more training.  She’s going to make an intermediate or above rider a nice pleasure, trail, or even working horse.

Sprite will be competing under saddle in the Professional division of the Spring Training Challenge with trainer Cara Schroeder.  She will be available for adoption starting on May 2, 2020 at the Challenge and Adoption Event in Boyd, TX.  You can follow their progress on their Facebook Page.
