Hickory was seized from a neglectful owner along with several other horses. When he arrived, he was not halter broke and was very scared of people: he would kick and strike if cornered. He went to a trainer who got him halter broke, but even after that he was still difficult to handle. In 2012, a trainer offered to compete with him in the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. He made a complete turn-around with his trainer and placed 1st in the Professional division. His trainer formed a great bond with him during the training and decided to adopt him and use him for training demonstrations during clinics. Hickory will eventually become the trainer’s kids’ horse, too!
