About Poppie's Ruby

Poppie’s Ruby came to Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society in 2010 as part of a neglect case.  She had recently foundered and it took quite some time for her to recover.  She was adopted in 2012 by a long time Bluebonnet member and volunteer, but she was returned in 2016 when her adopter’s family moved out of state.

Nothing is known of Poppie’s Ruby’s history.

Health / Lameness

Poppie’s Ruby foundered shortly before arriving at BEHS.  She has been rehabilitated but she may founder again in the future.  Any adopter needs to be aware of the increased risk. She also has arthritis in both knees.

From her foster home: “Poppie’s Ruby is a gentle, nurturing, loving mare. She is full of life, and you can see her heart in her eyes. She enjoys a good scratch just behind her ears at the top of her neck – so much that she starts leaning to the side you are scratching! When I bring her food into her pen, although she meets me right at the gate, she backs up to let me in, then trots in circles around me (mindful of my space) all the way to the feeders! Sometimes she trots right over to the feeders and nickers at me, as if to say ‘hurry up slowpoke!’”

Evaluation and Training

Unfortunately, due to Poppie’s Ruby’s arthritis, she is not ridable.

She is a sweet mare who will make someone a nice pet and companion for their other horses.
