About Lady Liberty

Lady Liberty was removed from negligent owners and placed with BEHS by the sheriff’s department.

History

Nothing is known of Lady Liberty’s history before coming to BEHS.

Health / Lameness

Lady Liberty was emaciated when she came to BEHS.  She has no other known health or lameness problems.

Evaluation and Training

Lady Liberty got injured in a pasture accident and is in rehabilitation while she recovers.

Lady Liberty leads, loads, and stands for the farrier.  She stands for saddling, bridling, and cinching up.  She is still learning to stand still while being mounted, so she may walk off if allowed.

Her youth handler for the Training Challenge is working with her on the ground and over obstacles in hand.

Lady Liberty spent two months with trainer Hilary LoBue to be started under saddle.  She said she is very quiet both in the arena and out on the trails.  She’s been ridden alone and in groups and down the road, and she’s done well with all.  She’s sometimes slow to turn so patience and consistency is important.  She also needs encouragement to lope.

Her trainer says, “She is very gentle but still green so she needs consistent riding to learn properly and not develop bad habits.  She loves trail rides and obstacles.  Since she is still young, I would refrain from heavy work like jumping or speed events with tight turns until she is fully grown.”
