About Keera

Keera was removed from negligent owners and placed with Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society by animal control.

Keera was not handled much before coming to Bluebonnet.

Health / Lameness

Keera has no known health or lameness problems.

Keera will be competing in hand in the Non-Pro In Hand division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with non-pro Tracy Cann.  She will be available for adoption starting on October 21, 2017 at the Challenge competition during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo in Austin, Texas.

You can follow their progress on their Facebook page.

Evaluation and Training

Keera hadn’t had much handling before coming to Bluebonnet, so she’s finishing up a couple of weeks of halter training with trainer Ashley Anderson.  Keera has learned to be caught, respect handlers space, and lead well. She has also learned to yield her hindquarters, yield her forquarters, lunge, and back in hand.  Ashley says that Keera still needs work on desensitizing and every now and then she gets worried around her hind legs.  Before she leaves Ashley’s facility, she will have learned to have her hind legs handled and get her feet trimmed.  Ashley is also teaching Keera to tie, bathe, stand to be groomed, farrier work, and all around ground manners.

Because she’s a young filly who hasn’t been handled much, she needs to go to an adopter who has some horse handling experience and can reinforce and follow-up with Ashley’s lessons.
