About April

April was removed from negligent owners and placed with Bluebonnet by the sheriff’s department.

Nothing is known of April’s history before coming to Bluebonnet, however it seems like she may not have been handled much and her previous handling has been harsh.  She’s very nervous and flinches when you raise your right hand around her.

Health / Lameness

April has no known health or lameness issues.

Evaluation and Training

When April arrived, she was hard to catch but now her foster home says she can walk up to April easily.  She stands to be haltered, leads, and loads.  She likes grooming time, but she does not appear to know what a saddle pad or other tack is and we believe she is not broke to ride.

April is a super sweet horse who stays sweet and quiet in new settings.  She is a quick learner, so she should be a good horse to start under saddle.  She is spending six weeks (September-October) with Bernie Wilimitis to be started under saddle.  Her fee will be based on where she is in her training when adopted.

When he got her, Bernie said she was very nervous and reactive.  He’s been working with her on the ground and she’s settling down with him.  He says she learns quickly and she’s improving every day!
