About Smooth

Smooth was removed from negligent owners and placed with Bluebonnet by the courts.

Smooth was not handled and had limited human interaction before coming to Bluebonnet.

Health / Lameness

Smooth has no known health or lameness problems.

Smooth will be competing in hand in the Non-Pro In Hand division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with non-pro Patricia Henry.  He will be available for adoption starting on October 19, 2019 at the Challenge competition during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo in Taylor, Texas.

You can follow their progress on their Facebook page.

Evaluation and Training

Smooth went to trainer Darrell Gardner for halter training in September-October to be gentled/trained.  He’s been with a foster home who has been working with him on the ground, and he’s doing great!  She says he has learned to stand for blanketing, yield to pressure, to longe (only for a few minutes at a time as he’s young).  He stands while she hops up and down next to him.  He has also learned to come to her and walk away from her based on hand signals.  He’s also learning to navigate trail obstacles in hand. Clearly, this is a smart horse!

She says he is a friendly guy who likes people, learns fast, and is very willing.

He’s 15+ hh now, and he’s still growing!  He’s going to be a big, handsome guy.

We want an adopter who won’t start him under saddle until next year when he’s three, but adopting him now gives someone the chance to work with him on the ground and bond with him.  Then he and his adopter can go far together, doing anything an adopter would like to train him for!
