About Tamale

Tamale is a talented mare who excels under saddle with both adults and youth riders. She’s had a lot of riding time while at Bluebonnet and is hoping to find someone new to adventure with. She came to Bluebonnet from another rescue that was closing its horse program. She was adopted but then returned a few years later when her adopter could no longer keep horses.

Tamale is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Pieper Keenan. Tamale will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Evaluation and Training

Personality & Manners:
- Stands well for the farrier, baths, and fly spray
- Patient and tolerant
- Sweet-natured and willing once she trusts you
- Can be pushy if boundaries aren’t reinforced
- Prefers turnout but stalls fine (messy in a stall)
- Good with dogs, cats, chickens, and cattle

Training & Abilities:
- Broke to ride; ridden English and Western
- Easy to catch, halter, groom, tack, and load
- Safe for kids on the ground and has given lead-line rides
- Suitable for novice rider or adult riders
- Walk, trot, and canter in arena and on trails
- Confident with water, cattle, and obstacles
- Neck reins, backs, stops, and turns well
- Has popped over small jumps; shows potential for hunters, eventing or playdays
- Her trainer rides 4 times a week.

Background & Care:
- Tamale underwent allergy testing and was on allergy injections for several months. Her current vet feels her biggest allergy trigger is to biting insects and recommended fly spray, fly mask, and fly boots to offer protection and to only resume allergy injections if those things did not work
- Dislikes needles, so injections can be challenging
- Thrives when she has a job

Why She’s Amazing:
- Tamale is a versatile mare and will try anything asked of her—whether it’s trail riding, ranch work, jumping, or just being a steady companion. She is safe and tolerant, yet forward and fun when asked, making her a wonderful partner for someone who wants an all-around horse. With her sweet personality, trainability, and tolerance for kids and chaos alike, she’ll make her future adopter proud in any direction they take her.
