Indy had a rough start at life. She didn't trust people when she arrived, and she was so worried about when her next meal would arrive that she pinned her ears and stomped her feet when feeding time neared.

Afer spending time with patient and loving foster caregivers, Indy's coming out of her shell. She knows food will come, and be plentiful, so she doesn't pin her ears and stomp her feet, although she feels safest when she's in her own stall for mealtimes where she doesn't need to defend her food from others.

She takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once she does, she's a sweet and social horse who enjoys attention. She seems to have a special soft spot for kids: her current foster family includes a 12 year old girl who has been riding Indy at home on trails and in the arena, has taken her to riding lessons, and has taken her to 4-H practice. Indy seems to enjoy showing off in front of the other horses and likes patterns and obstacles. She's not at all spooky.

Indy's happy in either a western or English saddle, but she demands soft hands and gentle leg pressure. She wants a sympathetic rider who won't force or bully her. She doesn't like to canter, although her vets have found no physical reason for her to not canter under saddle.

Indy's foster caregivers believe she wants a home full of love, where she can be herself and enjoy riding time with a person of her own. She isn't the kind of horse who would be good in a lesson program as she really wants her own family or person who she can get to know, trust, and love.

Health Notes: In 2024, she was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her neck, and bodywork has made her more comfortable. She is not currently on any medication, although she could require medication in the future.
