About Artie
Artie is a handsome gelding who came to us from another rescue. They had received him from a law enforcement neglect case. After Artie arrived at Bluebonnet, his former owner reached out to us to share information about him. She said he was a registered warmblood, but we never received his registered name or papers. She also said she was unable to ride him because he was lame, however he’s been thoroughly vetted twice while with us and both vets, including one lameness specialist, have cleared him for riding and he has remained sound and free of lameness while with us.
Artie is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Katelin Rice. Artie will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page CLICK HERE
The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 4, 2025, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.
Evaluation and Training
Personality & Manners:
- Artie is usually the first to greet you in the pasture and enjoys attention.
- He’s kind and patient once he understands what’s being asked.
- Confident in the arena and on the trail.
- Loads in the trailer, leads well, stands tied for grooming, baths, fly spray, and farrier visits.
- Gets along peacefully with mares, geldings, minis, and donkeys.
Training & Abilities:
- Jumping Experience – Started over fences with an experienced teen rider; cleared for jumping by veterinary exam.
- Brave and steady outside the arena; handles low branches and dogs by his side without concern.
- Rides walk, trot, and canter comfortably in the round pen, arena, and open fields.
- Lunges willingly in the round pen and on a line at walk, trot, and canter.
- Currently ridden 3–4 times per week; he stays responsive with regular work. If given time off, he needs to be brought back to work slowly.
Background & Care:
- Thrives with a confident rider who gives clear, consistent cues. Not suitable for timid beginners due to his size and pushiness on the ground at times.
- Currently he wears shoes because he has thin soles; they give him extra protection and keep him comfortable for regular work
- Artie is a big horse with a healthy appetite. He currently eats 3 scoops of Alfa Force twice daily plus coastal hay.
Why He’s Amazing:
Artie is an incredible blend of sweetness, bravery, and versatility. He’s the kind of horse who meets you at the gate, eager to connect, and quickly builds a bond of trust with his person. Whether he’s confidently heading down the trail, working steadily in the arena, or popping over fences, His gentle personality makes him a joy to be around, while his athleticism and training give him the potential to shine in a variety of disciplines. With a rider who offers clear, consistent guidance, Artie will not only be a reliable partner but also a loyal and rewarding friend. He could be shown, enjoyed on trails, or kept as a pet and companion.
