About Shawnee
Shawnee was removed from negligent owners by law enforcement and awarded to BEHS. She was adopted in the summer of 2010 but was returned a few months later (through no fault of her own). She was adopted at the 2011 Bluebonnet Horse Expo to become a teenager's show horse. She did well with her adopter, but she was returned when her adopter moved out of state. Shawnee was 4th in the foster horse under saddle division of the 2016 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge and was adopted at the event.
Shawnee is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Jeff Kneller. Shawnee will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 5, 2024, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page CLICK HERE
The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 5, 2024, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.
Evaluation and Training
Shawnee knew very little when she came into BEHS. She's learned lot while in rescue, and she wants to please her handler and tries hard to understand what is asked of her. She can be a little skittish so she's not for a novice horse person. She's a nice stout mare who could do well in a variety of western disciplines with a little time and patience. Shawnee spent time with a trainer who had her going under saddle at a walk, trot, and canter. She was adopted and ridden by a teenager who did well with her but returned when her adopter moved out of state. Shawnee is still green so she'll need a rider who can continue her training, but she's smart and learns quickly and can do almost anything she's trained for! Shawnee spent almost four months with Kaitlyn Glass to prepare to show in the Foster Horse Under Saddle division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. During that time, they spent time in arenas, on trails, and working over obstacles. In September, Kaitlyn showed Shawnee to the 2016 EXCA (Extreme Cowboy Association) Southern Region Green Horse Champion.
