Phoenix was BEHS' first horse. His owner could not keep him, and he was looking for a home. BEHS offered to take Phoenix in. Once he got here, we discovered that although he was very young (just four years old at the time), he had already been severely physically abused. He has lumps behind his ears and arthritis in his front legs from the abuse. It had also left him very leery of all new people. Phoenix was adopted but returned when his adopters suddenly had to move. His original foster mom decided he had been through enough in his life and gave him a place to live out his life.
