Nickers was removed from a negligent owner and placed with BEHS in 2006. A volunteer had received a complaint of a starving horse, and when she and the sheriff's deputy arrived, they were appalled. He was several hundred pounds underweight at the time and very weak. Slowly he gained weight and became a gorgeous horse. He has a lip tattoo, so we know he was in race training but the tattoo is hard to read so we are unsure of his registered name. Nickers was broke to ride but he was adopted by his foster family after they fell in love with him. Nicker's foster "mom" adopted him as a gift for her husband - a very special gift.Unfortunately Nickers' stay with them was only a few short months. He was euthanized on December 3, 2006 because of severe founder and degenerative bone disease in both front legs. His family misses him terribly.
