About Wren
Wren was surrendered to animal control when her owners were investigated for neglect, and animal control then placed her with Bluebonnet.
Wren was training to compete in the Non Pro Under Saddle division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge at the 2020 Bluebonnet Horse Expo with trainer Norma Kurkowski. Wren's trainer and her sister wrote their dad a note on why they needed Wren. What dad could say no? Congratulations to Wren, who will now be known as Sunshine, and her new family!
Evaluation and Training
She leads, loads in a trailer, and stands tied well. She also stands for fly spraying and grooming. At her first farrier visit, she yanked one front foot away from the farrier several times but was otherwise ok. She was ridden in her first foster home by an adult rider and did well at the walk and trot. She needs to work on steering but she has a good stop and moves out well when asked. She’s spent about three months in the summer/fall of 2019 with a youth rider to improve her riding skills. They’ve been riding in an arena and over obstacles, and Wren is doing well. Her rider says she’s very quiet under saddle. Nothing seems to bother her. She has potential to be a nice show or trail pony, and she might be good for younger kids with some more training.
