About Vegas

Vegas and a herdmate were removed from negligent owners by law enforcement and placed with Bluebonnet by the courts. Vegas is not registered, but we believe he is likely a Spotted Saddlebred Horse or cross.

Through no fault of his own, Vegas was returned in July of 2024.

Evaluation and Training

Vegas is a gorgeous horse who has been through a lot in his life. He was removed from negligent owners and placed with Bluebonnet, where he got excellent care and training. He was then adopted and spent several years with his adopter before being returned when she passed away.

Because he's had some upheaval in his life, Vegas can take a little time to adjust to a new home. Once he does, though, he's a sweet horse who really wants someone to trust and build a good life with.

He is good for fly spray, stands tied, leads, and loads. He's good to catch and his current foster home has been refreshing his groundwork and says he is coming along well. At a previous foster home, he also tolerated having a bridle path clipped well.

His original foster home in 2019 worked with him in the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. She believed he was either very green under saddle then or had not been started before. Together, they rode around her property and over trail obstacles, and they placed 4th overall in the Non-Pro Under Saddle division of the 2019 Training Challenge.

We don't know how much his adopter got to ride but we know when he had been returned it had been a while since he had done much riding. His foster home spent time building trust with him and has recently done his first ride - a short bareback ride with no problems.

He's a gaited horse and still very green, so he'll need an advanced rider or a confident intermediate rider, preferably working with a trainer, to continue bringing him along. He has potential to be a fun and smooth trail or pleasure horse with more training.
