About Angel
Angel came to BEHS from a neglect case, severely underweight and in need of good care and good food. With patience and love, she gained weight. Once she was healthy, we discovered that she was already well-broke to ride. Angel was adopted by a family who planned to trail ride her. When the adopter’s health changed, she returned Angel to us so we could find her a new home.
Now older, Angel is a wise, gentle soul who’s enjoying a slower pace. She’s got plenty of life left to share, along with a calm presence, a big heart, and just a hint of sass when she feels like reminding you that she’s still got spirit.
Angel is competing in the In-Hand 13 and Up Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Chloe Bowen. Angel will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Evaluation and Training
Personality & Manners:
- Very friendly and people-oriented – usually the first to greet you in the pasture
- Calm, gentle soul with a wise heart and a touch of sass when she feels playful
- Easy to catch, halter, and lead
- Stands quietly for grooming, baths, picking up feet, and farrier visits
- Loads easily in a trailer (sometimes even by herself)
- Gets along well with mares, geldings, and even minis
- Enjoys treats (carrots are her favorite!) and soaking up attention
- Patient and steady, making her safe for beginners on the ground
Training & Abilities:
- Lunges at walk, trot, and canter (on line or in round pen)
- Accepts saddle and bridle; also rides in a halter
- Walks, trots, and canters under saddle
- Stops well and responds nicely, though may test her rider by walking off at mounting block.
- Ridden in arena, open field, and introduced to trails and obstacles
- Comfortable with line driving
- Suitable for lead-line with kids and beginner/novice riders under supervision
- Easy-going trail companion—happy to follow and enjoy the ride rather than lead the way
Background & Care:
Her joints aren’t what they used to be but she’s sound and cleared for light riding. She’s happiest as a steady trail companion, lead-line horse, or pasture friend. No jumping, playdays, endurance, or strenuous trails.
Why She’s Amazing:
Despite being badly neglected in the past, Angel has grown into a kind and willing partner. Steady and trustworthy, she’s safe for kids, beginners, and anyone in need of a gentle hand. While she still enjoys light work, she’s equally content being a pasture buddy, always ready to greet you with kindness. Angel is the kind of horse who teaches patience, calmness, and joy—the mare who reminds you to slow down, breathe, and smile.
