BEHS 1056 – Travis

Travis leads, loads, and stands for farrier work, grooming, and saddling. His initial evaluation revealed he had probably been ridden at some point but he was not well trained and didn't know much.

Travis is spending the month of October 2019 with trainer Kelly Lazo preparing for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. Kelly says is did not seem to trust her at first but he is learning and turning into a really nice horse. He has good ground manners but he still needs work on picking up his feet. He does not kick, he just likes to keep them on the ground. He is easy to catch. He needs someone who is patient and calm. He is a fairly quiet horse but has spooked at a few things. It is not a hard spook though. She has also ridden him bareback.

He has a super smooth walk, trot, and canter. He catches both leads with help. He will walk and trot over poles. He will do harder obstacles like tarp, curtain, and pedestal but you must be patient. He will require some repetition with tasks; just because he does something once does not mean he will do it again.

Travis should make someone a nice riding or ranch horse. He would be best for at least an intermediate rider that is not intimidated easily and who is patient as he can be stubborn at times. His trainer also feels that with more time under saddle he will eventually be suitable for even a novice rider.
