About Junipero

Junipero was removed from negligent owners and placed with Bluebonnet by the courts. Junipero was emaciated when he arrived at Bluebonnet, but he has recovered well. Junipero arrived with a large, boney lump on his head, likely the result of an old injury. He cut his face next to his left eye after arriving. The cut required stitches and will likely leave a scar. He has other old scars from unknown injuries. However, he appears sound and has no known health or lameness problems.
Junipero was preparing to compete in the Spring 2020 Training Challenge with professional trainer Shannon Lucas. Shannon tried her best to resist his charm but that was just impossible, so she pulled the trigger and adopted him! Congratulations Shannon and Junipero, you two are amazing together!

Evaluation and Training

Junipero is a very sweet, gentle and willing boy but he also can still be a spunky 5 year old. Junipero is still very green as far as riding and handling goes but he leads, loads and stands for farrier well. He also has shown signs that he will kick when spooked but he is not aggressive, it is just more self preservation. He and his trainer have been working on his confidence. He is very affectionate and loves attention, he is a fast learning and nothing really seems to phase him. He picks up right were he left off in his training and is starting to gain more muscle and filling out really nicely!
Junipero loves people and loves attention. He’s ready to be someone’s best friend! He will need an experienced rider that is willing to continue his training.
Junipero will be competing under saddle in the Professional division of the Bluebonnet HelpAHorse Spring Training Challenge and Adoption Event with trainer Shannon Lucas. He will be available for adoption starting on June 13, 2020 at the Challenge competition in Boyd, TX (originally scheduled for May 2, 2020). You can follow their progress on their Facebook Page.
