About Reba

Reba and her herdmates were owned by an older gentleman who passed away. His family did not want to keep the horses and could not care for them, so they placed the herd with Bluebonnet.

Reba hadn't been handled much in a long time, so she went to a trainer for the the Spring 2020 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. Her trainer felt she needed more time and would not be ready for the spring Challenge, so she withdrew from the event.

She was enrolled in the Fall 2020 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge but developed lameness issues after she began training. She was seen by a vet in June 2020 who diagnosed her with arthritis. Because of this, she became available as a non-riding/companion horse only.

Reba was one of seven of our companion only/non-ridable horses that were adopted by one of our supporters. She had the space, time, support system and love to provide a sanctuary, and forever home, to some of the hardest to place horses. Anna, Reba, Tippy, Skeeter, Meadow, Herald, and Miss Pebbles all came to Bluebonnet from different neglect cases, and they all are unridable due to old injuries, age, or conformation issues. These guys have found an amazing home. Thank you to Melissa A. for giving them a place to be - to be fed, to be loved, to be looked after.

Evaluation and Training

Reba is a very smart mare and she tries really hard to please. She isn’t the kind of horse that follows you around yet but she can be hard to catch. She's had a lot of ground work from two trainers, and her handlng skills are greatly improved. Unfortunately she has arthritis which leaves her unridable.
