About Golly Miss Molly

GollyMissMolly came to Bluebonnet when her owner could no longer keep her. Golly Miss Molly gets along well with other horses, she quickly integrated into her foster home’s herd.

Evaluation and Training

Molly has had training her past, but she may have had some heavy handling, possibly forced into things. She is a little wary at first until trust is established, but she remains gentle and is not dangerous, disrespectful or pushy. She has excellent ground manners. She is easy to catch and handle. She leads, yields her quarters, sends through gates. She is good with the basic life skills – stands for farrier, enjoys grooming, is fine with fly spray, and paste dewormers. She is a little head shy and fearful of things with sticks - manure fork, broom.

Molly has had some round pen experience free lunging. She walks and trots on cue, we are working to polish the stop and face. She is learning to work on the lunge line, but is reluctant to roll over from her right to left to give you her right eye, she wants to face her handler. She is learning to back in hand, as she prefers to walk forward to her handler.

Molly calmly accepts the saddle and rider. She prefers mounting and dismounting from the offside and is learning from the onside. She responds well to leg and seat cues to turn, walk, trot and stop. She has a wonderful smooth, slow trot. She frames up with a nice headset and carries herself well. She neck reins, but doesn’t seem to understand the direct rein and pushes on the bit with a direct cue. She will need frequent, short workouts to build up her condition and stamina. Due to her age, a good groundwork program combined with short rides is suggested to rebuild joint, tendon and muscle strength, and she will have many more riding years. She will make a great partner for easy trail or pasture riding or as a therapy horse.
