About Vaughn

Vaughan is a 20 year old grade gelding. The vet thinks he might be a Fox Trotter cross, but he doesn’t appear to be gaited. He is a quiet horse and easy going horse. He does not do much to defend himself so he needs to be in with horse(s) that won’t pick on him, or he could easily be beaten up.

Vaughn sometimes enjoys attention, other times he seems indifferent. Food insecurity is Vaughan’s main issue. He always thinks he is starving and can’t focus on anything but food once feed, hay, or treats are brought into the equation. He will run someone over to get to food. His foster home is working with him on the problem. He is an easy keeper and is a bit plump, so he doesn’t get to eat much - which may be why he thinks he is so hungry. He does creak and crack sometimes, and may need an arthritis supplement in the future, but seems to get around fine. He has severe scarring on his neck and behind his ears from an old fence injury most likely. Vaughan is a sweet horse, and seems willing and obedient in general. He usually says hello and walks up to greet me in the pasture.

Evaluation and Training

Vaughan hadn’t been ridden in at least two years so his foster home has been doing short sessions with him to bring him back to work. He doesn’t appear to know much, but may just be rusty. He occasionally considers misbehaving but is easy to redirect. He seems unfamiliar with tarps, but will walk over logs willingly. He is a not a spooky horses but when he does get frightened he recovers quickly.
