About Dolce Luna
Dolce Luna is a 14.2 HH beautiful paint mare. She was donated to Bluebonnet when her owner could not keep her due to health issues. She was formerly a trail riding horse, but has not been ridden or received much attention in several years. Dolce Luna's donor said that her grandkids used to ride the mare around on their property.
Luna was extremely thin and ill when she arrived but she is doing well on a nutritious diet and pasture in her foster home. She is very sociable, enjoys the company of people and other horses, and has had a mini-donkey (“Short Stack” BEHS 1153) as a pasture mate. Luna does not seem to be skittish or ornery. She whinnies when her barn-mates leave without her, and she vocally greets people coming into the barn. She is curious, alert, active, and likes attention.
Dolce Luna was adopted as a trail/pleasure horse. Her adopter says she's the sweetest horse and we're looking forward to many great updates!
Evaluation and Training
Luna arrived to Bluebonnet with overgrown hooves and white line disease, but her farrier believes the hooves will regrow to achieve decent condition with special care while she is recovering. The farrier indicates her prognosis for recovering is good.
Luna leads, loads into a trailer, and stands for the farrier. She can be pushy on the ground, especially if she wants to get through a gate. It’s been a while since she’s had to practice her ground manners. She does enjoy petting and grooming, and is very food-oriented.
Luna's hooves were in rough shape when she arrived but with a few months of good farrier care they have improved and are now in good condition. Her foster home says she will walk, trot, and canter under saddle.
