About Shiloh
Shiloh's owner surrendered her to BEHS when he was investigated for neglect. She was underweight, but she quickly gained weight in her foster home. Her previous owner claimed his children rode her - and she acted like a spoiled horse who had been allowed to get away with too much. But Shiloh quickly learned. Her easy-going personality and ability to learn quickly made her a popular horse and she was adopted quickly by a family in 2007. She was returned in 2018 due to her adopter's health problems. She tied for 3rd place in the Professional Under Saddle division of the Rescue Horse Training Challenge at the 2019 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and met her adopter. Congratulations Shiloh!
Evaluation and Training
Shiloh spent the last several years being a beloved pet. Before then, she was ridden by her foster home and seemed like she had some training. She partnered with professional trainer Maddison Amason for the 2019 Fall Training Challenge. They have been doing ground work, basic under saddle maneuvers, working around obstacles, and some spectacular desensitizing work. Take a look at how calm she is with a road flare burning within a couple feet of her in the video link at the bottom of the page! Shiloh's trainer says she does not like a bit so she has been being ridden in a loose fitted hackamore. She responds to voice commands and leg pressure very well. She is easy to bathe, saddle and load in a trailer. She would be perfect for an intermediate person just learning horse ownership or someone who wants to trail ride or just ride around with friends. She would also work for a beginner that wants to walk and trot mostly. She has bucked at a canter when she has been stalled for a few days. Her trainer said the buck is not big or dangerous though. She would be best for a lighter rider due to her age and conditioning.
