About Riker

Riker was surrendered to Bluebonnet when his owners were investigated for neglect. Riker’s sire was a quarter pony type and his mother appeared to be a quarter horse. He was not halter broke and hadn't been handled much upon arrival but was not afraid of humans. He learns very quickly and has lots of courage. He has no fear of humans and seems to bond very fast.

He was gelded in March 2021.

Riker paws when eating and can be very defensive about his food. He will kick at you if you come near him when he has feed.

Evaluation and Training

Riker's foster home has been working with him to introduce basic skills like tying, bathing and standing for the farrier. He now easy to catch, halters, leads great, and even backs up with vocal command. He will pick up all 4 feet but still needs work for farrier trims. He can be tied for baths, he just moves around some, but not much fuss. When he is worried about something new he looks to his handler for encouragement.

His foster home is working on his food aggression by having him eat out of a bucket they are holding.
