About Edna

Edna was an owner surrender due to a neglect case investigation. Edna is a sweet, calm and well-mannered old girl. She gets along well with other horses. She is slow to get around, so will need a buddy or herd mates that are easy going. Due to lameness issues and age she is suitable as pet/companion only.

Edna arrived as a body score 1, along with other issues resulting from long term neglect. She has fistulous withers from infected saddle sores. Long-term effects of this issue are unknown at this time. Her back left tendons are constricted, causing her to walk on her toe. She is lame on that back left. She is stiff on her front legs, not yet evaluated. For these reasons, she should not be ridden. Unsound on back left due to a malformed hoof and fetlock. Ligaments are constricted, and she cannot bear weight – therapeutic shoeing is recommended. Painful on both fronts, unclear if due to founder, thrush infection or just arthritis due to age. Whether this will be a long-term issue is unknown.

Evaluation and Training

She nickers a greeting when we go to the barn and comes right to us when we go to catch her. She has excellent ground and halter manners. She loves to be groomed and is a pro at routine care. She stands for the farrier but has a difficult time standing on her side for long due to the aforementioned issues.
