About Tamale
Tamale was placed with Bluebonnet by a rescue who has disbanding its horse program.
Tamale is a follower who needs consistent leadership to feel secure, and she doesn't trust everyone. When she is anxious, she'll try to take control of the situation, but she prefers to take her cues from her handler and settles down immediately when corrected.
Tamale does guard her food and has charged at her foster home's goats when they ventured too close while she is eating. She also has an occasional cough, but it does not seem to bother her and may be allergies.
Through no fault of her own, Tamale was returned in early 2024.
Evaluation and Training
Tamale is easy to catch and handle. She stands well for grooming and lets her foster home handle her feet. She doesn’t like fly spray or blankets, though. She can be food aggressive with other animals but is fine with people. Her foster home feels she is clever and needs regular work to remain confident and calm.
Tamale competed in the Professional Division of the 2022 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. Her trainer worked with her for four months. She’s ridden at a walk, trot, and canter in both an arena and out in the open. They’ve ridden through water and worked cattle. She’s been around young children but is not yet ready for youth riders.
