We don’t know how much handling August had when he came to Bluebonnet. His original foster home reported that he was very distrusting and hard to handle when she first got him. He spent four months with trainer Meredith Bernard in 2022 to prepare for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. Meredith focused on ground work and building his trust and confidence, and he’s now a much more comfortable and happy horse. Meredith has ridden him some bareback but says he has been very nervous with the saddle, and she suspects he may have had some bad experiences with one in the past. We do not consider him rideable at time and he's going to need an experienced horseperson to start him under saddle.
