About Polo

This gelding was an owner donation to Bluebonnet. Polo has Cushings but it is controlled with medication and diet. This handsome fellow was a former lead-line pony at a boys camp. His donor reported that he was rock solid when it comes to trails. He does it all water crossing, bridges, traffic, willing to ride alone or in a group...etc. He is extremely social but docile and herd bound. He's a "middle of the herd" guy.

Evaluation and Training

His donor also reports that he ground ties for all vet/farrier work. Has been through all desensitizing and trailers, no problem. He will work in an arena but it's not his favorite.

He can be pushy with new people, but he’s doing well with his youth handler right now. He’s great to catch, lead, and load. He stands tied and is good for baths, fly spray, clippers, and the farrier.

His current youth handler has ridden him in a snaffle bridle and western saddle at a walk and gait in the round pen and arena, and he was a bit rusty but overall did fine. He’s also been ridden over obstacles and taught to navigate obstacles in hand.

She feels he’s fine for a beginner who is taking lessons and while he may not be good for a novice child, he could be a nice kids’ horse with additional training.

With his cool rocky mountain gait, he’s going to make someone a comfy trail or pleasure horse.

Polo placed 3rd in the Freestyle competition, 5th in the Basic Skills competition, and 4th for the Non-Pro In-Hand 12 and Under Division of the 2022 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge.
