About Draco

Draco is a striking, big-bodied grade, stock type gelding with a playful personality. Although he takes time to warm up to new people, he also craves connection. He was surrendered due to his previous owner’s lack of time and training knowledge and has since been learning to trust and build confidence with new people. Draco loves attention, scratches, and being part of the action, and he’s ready to become someone’s companion and pet – or for a professional to take him on as a training project.

I can’t wait to share updates, photos, and stories as I get ready to find my forever home.

Evaluation and Training

Personality & Manners:
- Takes time to warm up to new people but genuinely craves connection once trust is built
- Has a distinctive, deep nicker at feeding time — described as sounding like a Harley starting up
- Social in a herd and currently lives comfortably with both mares and geldings
- Has been introduced to sheep, llamas, and cows and handles new animals with curiosity and composure

Training & Abilities:
- Sometimes takes a few minutes to catch in the pasture, but halters and leads easily once caught
- Stands tied politely for grooming, baths, and fly spray
- Walks, trots, and canters on a lunge line and in a round pen
- Loads into the trailer by himself; experienced with both slant-load and open-stock trailers
- Walks calmly next to a confident handler when being led
- Learning to ground tie and showing steady progress
- Picks up all four feet willingly for trimming

Background & Care:
- Draco is an anxious guy: anxious with both new people and new places. He would do well as a pet/companion who doesn’t have to travel or get used to new people.
- Draco thrives with consistent handling and will benefit from continued training to build his confidence and reach his full potential
- Because of his anxiety, he has bolted when his original foster home tried to ride him. He’s sound, but he will only be adopted as a riding horse to an expert/professional who can work through his under-saddle problems.
- He is ok to handle on the ground by a confident intermediate and could be a nice companion for a lonely horse.

Why He’s Amazing:
Draco is smart, sensitive, and full of personality. He’s a quick learner, loving, and has curious traits that make him a special partner for someone ready to continue his training and enjoy his unique character.
