BEHS 1233 – Nomad

Nomad has spent four months with trainer Tracy Waddle to prepare for the 2022 Training Challenge. She said when he first got there, he was pushy and easily startled, but she’s worked on his ground manners and he’s now good for her and her 11-year-old son to handle. She started him under saddle and has been riding him western at a walk, trot, and canter both in arenas and out in open fields. She’s hauled him to other arenas for more experience, ridden him on trails, and taught him to navigate obstacles.

He is still green, and she says he needs a confident rider. He has not spooked with her but does get “looky” and high headed in new situations. A calm word and confident hand help him settle down, but he might get spooky with a timid rider. She believes a novice rider who is confident could ride him, especially if taking lessons, and he’s been handled by children ages 8-15 on the ground and ridden bareback by her 11-year-old son. He’s not a beginner kids’ horse but could be that horse with more training or could be a kids’ horse for a kid who is experienced and working with a trainer.

He’s going to make someone a wonderful trail or pleasure horse.

Nomad is competing in the Professional Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge and will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 8, 2022, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center.

Nomad completed the training challenge and was adopted that very day!
