About Aluma
Aluma was donated when her owner could not care for her any longer due to his health. Aluma was diagnosed with Cushings in the fall of 2022. She’s been on Pergolide to treat her Cushings, and she is doing well.
Thank you to Chelsea Croissant Photography for donating photos of Aluma during the 2022 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training challenge.
Evaluation and Training
Aluma’s previous owner said she was a riding horse, but she was very skittish when she first arrived. She’s spent four months with a non-pro horse lover getting ready for the 2022 Training Challenge, and she’s come a long way. She can still be a bit hard to catch (she likes bribes!), but once caught she leads, loads, stands tied, stands for the farrier and fly spraying. She’s good to saddle. Her Challenge partner road her at a walk and the Paso Fino gaits. They also worked on obstacles, trails, and in other arenas.
Aluma is with a new trainer this year for the 2023 challenge, and they've been getting groundwork daily on things like flexing, moving off pressure, learning to just walk on a lounge line, joys of being caught and loved on, ground tying, and moving over poles. When she gets nervous, you will see her lips flap. She loves water!
