About Whisper
Whisper was surrendered to BEHS when her owner was investigated for neglect. When she arrived, she was very underweight and had painful sunburns. When she recovered, she was a sweet filly who was easy to handle and loved attention. It did not take long for her foster family to fall in love with her and adopt her. Unfortunately they could not keep her and rehomed her a couple of years later. She was then returned in 2012 when her adopter was going through a difficult time. Whisper competed with her foster home in the 2012 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge and caught the eye of a potential adopter. She came out to look at Whisper a few months later and took her home. Unfortunately she had to return her in 2015, but she was quickly re-adopted. Unfortunately, Whisper battled several health problems and crossed the Rainbow Bridge only a few months after she was adopted.
Evaluation and Training
Whisper's former adopter sent her to a trainer to get started under saddle, but that was long ago and she wasn't ridden after that. Her foster home is working with her and says that initially the saddle made Whisper very nervous. They're now riding, and she's relaxed about the saddle but is still very 'goey'. Her foster trainer said she was going pretty well under saddle, but she's discovered that Whisper is easy scared. When they started working over obstacles, Whisper took some things in stride. But other things really upset her. She can get reactive when confronted with something new. With a patient handler/rider, she can work through her fear and shows great athletic ability. She will need a patient and consistent rider/handler who can continue to increase her confidence both in herself and in that person. You can see you desire to please and she tries really hard to do so. Whisper competed in the 2012 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge on October 20, 2012 at the Bluebonnet Horse Expo in Austin, Texas. She placed 4th in the Foster Horse Under Saddle division.
