About Geordi

Geordi was removed from negligent owners and sent to the Houston Humane Society by the courts. They transferred him to Bluebonnet.

He was a stallion when he arrived but was immediately gelded. He’s now out with another recently gelded Bluebonnet horse with mares in the next pasture, and he displays no stallion-like behaviors.

Evaluation and Training

Geordi has a sweet personality and likes to be with people but it's clear that he wasn’t taught about personal space or other good ground manners before coming to Bluebonnet. He was test ridden in his first foster home and walked, trotted, and cantered under saddle but didn’t seem to understand most cues. We feel he was probably ridden in the past but not well-trained.

He has spent the spring and summer of 2022 with a youth rider to prepare for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. She’s taught him much better ground manners and has helped him under saddle. They’re able to walk, trot, and canter in an arena (both indoor and outdoor) and in open fields. She’s taught him to navigate trail obstacles under saddle and has taken him on trails and to other arenas to ride.

He’s been around kids on the ground. He is food aggressive (due to being starved) and has bitten and kicked at children when he is eating. We recommend he be fed in a stall or small pen and be left alone to eat in peace.

He’s good for an intermediate rider who can bring him along. He’s currently being ridden by a child under adult supervision and is doing well, but he’s definitely not for a timid or beginner kid at this time.

He’s a cute guy who is sweet and tries hard. He’s going to make someone a nice open show horse, pleasure horse, or trail horse – basically, anything you want to train him to do!

Geordi is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Alice Harvey. Geordi will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 8, 2022, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center.

Geordi completed the training challenge and was adopted that very day!
