About Cobre

Cobre was owned by a camp before she came to Bluebonnet. The camp’s director didn’t know much of her history. She likes to have another horse around so she most likely will need a friend at her new home. She seems really sweet so far. Loves treats and doesn’t mind being blanketed. Not spooky, doesn’t mind donkeys or dogs.

Evaluation and Training

Cobre was owned by a camp before she came to Bluebonnet. The camp’s director didn’t know much of her training history, but she told us Cobre was pushy on the ground and would rear and head toss under saddle.

In January 2022, her foster home began working with her after letting her settle into her home. She said Cobre stood nice for grooming and to be saddled. She is good to bridle with a snaffle bridle or a hackamore. Her foster home lunged her at a walk, trot, and canter but didn’t feel like Cobre had much lunging experience. They’ll be working on that!

Cobre’s foster home said she seemed a little nervous once she mounted, but she walked, trotted, and stopped well. When she tried to urge her into a canter, Cobre began tossing her head so she backed off or now. She did try to bite her rider’s leg twice, but she stopped that once corrected (she may try that with a new rider). She flips her head and tries to yank the reins from your hand, but we believe that’s because she’s very green and hasn’t had much good training. She neck reins and gives to leg pressure and backs with no problems.

Cobre is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Sarah Zeisler. Cobre will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 8, 2022, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center.
