About Tanto

Tanto was gelded at the Houston Humane Society before coming to Bluebonnet. Initially, he was stalled as he could not get along with other horses. After time, he was in a field with other geldings and did fine. His Training Challenge trainer reports that at their place, he’s had to be kept alone as he bit and struck at geldings. Horses will act differently in different herds, so Tanto may be fine in a mare herd or another herd of geldings. He probably won’t do well in a mixed herd. Or he may do best alone – he’s one of the few horses we would consider adopting out as an only horse.

Evaluation and Training

Tanto’s spent the summer with a trainer to prepare for the Training Challenge. The trainer reports that they’ve ridden him all over the ranch, including into the pond and over trail obstacles, with no problems. He’s started him on reining patterns, including sliding stops and flying lead changes.

He’s not a horse for a beginner or timid rider. He will need someone who is confident and has some experience to bring him along, but he could make a nice open show horse or trail horse with training.

Tanto is competing in the Professional Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Zachary Fish. Tanto will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 8, 2022, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center.

Tanto completed the training challenge and was adopted that very day!
