About Sport
Sport was surrendered to animal control along with a mare when his owner was investigated for neglect. He was not under-weight, although his companion was. In fact, he was overweight and went on a careful diet. He is a friendly donkey who loves having neck rubbed. He does act stud-like with bay horses: he will mount and follow them around. He has not been aggressive with any horses and has been out with another donkey, a pony, and horses of various sizes at his foster home.
Sport was returned in January of 2024, through no fault of his own.
Evaluation and Training
Sport is good to catch, lead, and load. He is good in a stall or in turnout. He is friendly and likes attention and should be a wonderful pet for someone, a companion to another donkey, or a companion to a non-bay horse.
He has clearly had his hooves and handled and trimmed in the past, but he’s not good with them – that’s the only thing his foster home can really fault him over. He will pick up his hoof but has nipped at his foster home when she’s done so or he will lean his weight on her. She’s been working with him and he is improving, so we believe this is something a patient person can overcome. Otherwise, he is nice to handle and was good for vaccinations and vetting.
