About Caspian

Caspian was transferred to Bluebonnet from another rescue in the spring of 2023. He had not had a lot of handling at the other rescue, but he came around quickly with consistency. He was enrolled in the 2023 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge in the Professional division, but his trainer was unable to devote enough time to him, so she withdrew before the competition.

Caspian sometimes makes a “clicking” noise when he moves. He has been vetted by three different vets who have found no lameness or physical problems. His most recent felt that he might be a gaited horse cross, so he moves a little differently. However, he found no signs of lameness.

Caspian is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Katie Kirk. Caspian will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 5, 2024, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 5, 2024, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.

Evaluation and Training

Caspian had not been handled a lot before coming to Bluebonnet. His initial foster home worked on teaching him to be caught and lead, and he already loaded well upon arrival at Bluebonnet.

His Training Challenge trainer put in a lot of groundwork with Caspian. When she first got him, he reverted a little bit and she worked through that, reminding him he could lead and behave. He was spooky at first but has gotten much braver with her work. He’s learned to stand tied, love grooming, and get bathed. He learned to lunge and wear a saddle as well.

After the Training Challenge, Caspian moved to a new foster who ran a lesson program. She felt he did not do well in a lesson environment and did not do well being used for two lessons per day. He is very green and would prefer a home where he is either a one-person horse or family horse. He will need an adopter willing to send him for some additional training or who can continue bringing him along.

He’s a nice, pretty boy who could do pleasure riding, trail riding, or low level dressage with training. He’s a nice age to start under saddle and his Training Challenge trainer gave him a great foundation to build on.
