About Zumi

Zumi raced on the track from 2019 to 2021. She was then rescued by another organization. She was severely underweight and neglected. They rehabbed her and lightly restarted her under saddle.

Zumi competed in the Professional division of the 2023 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge.

Evaluation and Training

Her trainer, Nicole Dial, has been riding her in an arena, along the road, and has hauled her to events and other arenas.

She describes Zumi best:
I have been extremely blessed over the past couple of months to get to work with Zumi and help her learn to be a solid member of society. The more I've worked with her, the more I have gotten to know her. One of those things I've learned was that she LOVES root beer barrels from Tractor Supply!

I believe Zumi would thrive with a family who either is looking for a trail partner or potentially a future playday horse with continued training. The pattern has not been our priority, but she's showing a good aptitude for the sport! She currently walks, trots, and lopes. She is learning her leads. She side passes, two-tracks, stops, backs, and is learning to open and close gates. She loads easy and stands tied. She picks up all four feet and stands nicely for the farrier. Currently, I believe she would do best with at least an intermediate rider, as she can have some get-up-and-go when asked, and can still be a little testy on occasion. She has never bolted or bucked, but she has crow hopped once in a blue moon. I have had a beginner ride her around at the walk, and she did just fine, so I think she has the potential to eventually be a beginner horse, but right now I think she still needs more miles under saddle.

When she gets scared, she looks to her rider. She can still be a little watchy, but most of the time, she barely bats an eye and is easy to reaffirm and relax. She always gives lots of try and wants to please. She is bottom of the herd and doesn't pick fights, she gets along with anyone who is willing to be her friend and stays out of the way of others. She currently has been in a pasture with all mares, and stalls well during the heat of the day. If she has a hay bag in front of her, she is one happy girl.

Whoever adopts Zumi will be one lucky family. She is truly a special mare.
